Newer than its most common counterpart, HDMI 2.0b. With an impressive 8K/10K specification, the market share is set to soar from 2020 onwards.
HDMI 2.1 standard outperforms its predecessor, HDMI 2.0, used by modern home entertainment devices. With almost triple the bandwidth capacity of HDMI 2.0, it can reach a maximum speed of 48Gbps as compared to 18Gbps. In terms of 4K TVs, it supports 4K video at up to 120 frames per second, without the need for motion interpolation. This results in more realistic and natural-looking action. New hardware released from 2018 onward, including TVs, media streamers, and game consoles, must be built with HDMI 2.1 to support its much higher bandwidth, meaning that it won't be found on existing devices through firmware updates.
Some highlights of the HDMI Specification 2.1 are:
DMI 2.1 supports higher video resolutions up to 8K60Hz and 4K120Hz for immersive viewing, and up to 10K for commercial and specialty usages.
Dynamic HDR support displays videos with optimal values for depth, detail, brightness, contrast and wider color gamuts, on a scene-by-scene or even frame-by-frame basis.
The Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable enables uncompressed HDMI 2.1 feature support with 48G bandwidth and low EMI emission. It is also backward compatible with previous HDMI versions, making it suitable for use with existing HDMI devices.
eARC (enhanced Audio Return Channel) simplifies connectivity and provides greater ease of use. It supports the most advanced audio formats and delivers the highest audio quality. It ensures full compatibility between audio devices and upcoming HDMI 2.1 products.
Enjoy smoother and more seamless transitions in gaming, movies, and video with enhanced features includes:
